Jennifer Strunk received her diploma and PhD degree in Industrial Chemistry from the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. After a postdoctoral stay at UC Berkeley (2008-2010) and employment as (junior) research group leader at Ruhr-University (2010-2014) and the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (2014-2016), she became professor at the LIKAT in Rostock, Germany, in January 2017 to lead the new Department of Heterogeneous Photocatalysis. She has published roughly 70 journal papers. Her prime research interest is to develop reliable reactors and reproducible research methodologies to understand the basic processes in heterogeneous photocatalysis.

Core Expertise
  • Gas-solid photocatalysis with highest purity and precision
  • In situ Infrared spectroscopy under illumination (gas and liquid phase)
  • Transient experiments (temperature-programmed desorption/adsorption/reaction)
  • Photocatalyst characterization
Motivation

The “grand challenges” with respect to climate change and renewable chemical supply are too complex to solve them as one researcher alone. Only a combination of expertise and catalytic methods will allow to develop appropriate solutions.

Who are we?

We are a good dozen young researchers and their supervisors and we develop novel catalysts and reactions for a sustainable, green chemistry. In doing so, we combine different approaches from our fields: Chemistry, Biochemistry and Protein Engineering as well as Plasma Physics.
